Transfer Values From Some Final Salary Schemes Temporarily Suspended Following the recent emergency budget and the announcements on the change from RPI to CPI, some final salary pension schemes have temporarily suspended guaranteed transfer valuations required for pension transfer value analysis for transfers to other UK pension schemes and QROPS (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes).

Following the change to pension retirement (creystalisation) rules on 6th April 2010 where the minimum retirement age was inreased to age 55 from 50. There was some uncertainty as to whether or not there were unauthorised payment charges for those who claimed unsecured pensions benefits (USP) and then transferred the residual funds to a SIPP or QROPS and or implemented an income stream prior to attaining age 55.

QROPS and the Switch from RPI to CPI Could Have a Impact on Future Transfer Values Geouge Osbourne (Chancellor) announced in his emergency budget on 22 June 2010 that the index used to uprate private occupational pensions and public service pensions would change from the Retail Prices Index (RPI) to the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).
